Where are mounds in Ohio?

Mounds have been located throughout the Ohio region. Most of these mounds have been located in the southern half of the state near river valleys. Many have been located near Chillicothe, Ohio where the Adena and Hopewell both got their names. Mounds are found in Miamisburg, Springfield, Marietta, Hillsboro, Columbus, Bainbridge, Newark, Lebanon, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Ohio is known as "The Mound Builder State". Although many mounds are still in Ohio, many more are thought to have existed. When the explorers came, they began to change the land to fit their needs. Many things have since been built, and land has been farmed. Because of this, many mounds are thought to have been destroyed. Therefore, we will never know exactly how many mounds have been built in Ohio or their exact locations.
