Computer Science Comes Alive: Code.org

Code.org® is a non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities so every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra. Code.org organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign which has engaged 10% of all students in the world, and provides the leading curriculum for K-12 computer science in school districts in the United States. Just in case you are new to this terrific online resource, here’s a brief introduction. INFOhio is a digital library that offers a variety of content and services – most at no charge – to Ohio’s 1.9 million PreK-12 students, their parents, and their teachers. INFOhio transforms student learning by providing equitable access to quality resources and cost-effective instructional and technical support for each student, educator, and parent in Ohio. If you need a review of the resources available are a newbie to INFOhio, this training is for you!

We’ll review this assessment and spend hands-on time creating online assessments you can use in your classroom. STEM: Coding with Scratch

Code your first program in just 15 minutes, using the SCRATCH language. Then see how you can set up a coding class or club even with no previous coding experience. In this hands-on session you will also explore ways to introduce coding to students, and learn what types of coding are being taught in K-12 and college from an instructor who has taught 5 different coding languages.

STEM: Makey Makey: Become A Digital Inventor

Discover how digital controllers and computer programming impact almost every aspect of our lives, and then experience invention in this 5-hour hands-on workshop. The training includes an introduction to using “Scratch” programming language. Want to do more? Continue learning in our ‘Coding with Scratch’ workshop. STEM: Virtual Reality with Cardboard

Experience Virtual Reality and take home your own Google Cardboard 3D viewer (cell phone required). Also see how Augmented Reality can impact student learning, and review resources to help you and your students create their OWN virtual reality explorations tied with learning objectives in science, math, coding - almost any content area!


Registration must be received 2 weeks prior to the first class unless noted otherwise. MUST HAVE MINIMUM ENROLLMENT of 6 FOR TRAINING TO BE HELD. DECISION TO HOLD TRAINING MADE TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF TRAINING DATE.
Cancellation Policy: There is no charge if your registration cancellation is received at least 2 weeks prior to start of class. Graduate course fee refunds follow the university policy.
